Everyone who completed the heart health survey lives with cardiovascular disease. All had visited their GP in the past 12 months and were comfortable with discussing lifestyle changes with their GP. Most people said health care in the ACT was easy to access, however cost and lack of appointments were identified as barriers by some.
Around 75% of respondents were not aware of the 20-minute Medicare-subsidised heart health checks available with their GP, and agreed a public health campaign promoting this would be useful.
Also, around 75% of respondents wanted more AEDs available and supported a public awareness campaign about their use.
